A master of mosaic and channel inlay, overlay and stamp work, he was among the first to make storyteller bracelets, showing tiny, detailed scenes of traditional Navajo life. His silver work is beautifully detailed, and enlivened by the fine, colorful inlays. One of his concho belts is displayed in the permanent collection of the National Museum of the American Indian at the Smithsonian Institution, in Washington D.C. He was also a composer and recording artist of Navajo music, and nominated for a Grammy.

He lived out on the Navajo land, with livestock and horses, and brings his heritage to life in his work."I enjoy creating beautiful things," he says.

From wrightsgallery

Sadly Richard Begay passed away in 2013 but he passed his knowledge and passion to creating magnificent jewelry to his son Philbert Begay.
