HENRY STEIG, the innovative artist (and musician!) from New York City, created this sterling silver modernist pendant. According to Marbeth Schon's "Modernist Jewelry 1930 to 1960: The Wearable Art Movement," Steig's "early work was mostly silver, both primitive, and biomorphic..." Schon devoted three pages of her book to Steig and his work, and t are four pages given over to Steig in Nancy Schiffer's "Silver Jewelry Designs." This is wearable art indeed. Steig created jewelry from the early '50s through the early '70s.
